Michael retired in 2005 after a career in professional social work in London. Previously teaching English in Italy, he then qualified in social work and for many years worked with the elderly before specializing in mental health. He became an Approved Social Worker under the Mental Health Act and went on to manage a mental health team in north Hammersmith. Always keen to foster good mental health within the wider community, he helped to establish and then served on the management boards of residential and community organisations.
Michael believes strongly that vulnerable people should receive all the support that they need. In addition to Cedars Castle Hill he sits on the management boards of two mental health organisations in Dorchester and Sherborne and for the latter also drives a mini bus for outings. This latter reflects his belief that care and support should include fun.
Michael is a volunteer at the village primary school and is on the committee of his local village society; he plays Bridge and tennis and is walked by his two dogs.
