It certainly was a flaming June and it is a flaming July as well so far!
We all look forward to the summer months and spirits soar along with the temperatures. However, we all appear to be feeling the heat at the moment and although the winter was exceptionally cold, wet and long, a drop of rain is all we long for at the moment.
It seems we are never satisfied!
Down at The Cedars, we try to get our residents out into the garden as much as possible. We have lots of big umbrellas to give them shade and serve cool drinks and ice lollies to keep them hydrated and as comfortable as possible as temperatures soar. Inside we have free-standing air conditioning units in the lounge and throughout the home.
Up at Castle Hill House we have a lovely airy day room that opens onto the garden with an awning that stretches the width of the building allowing residents to enjoy being outside but providing loads of shade to keep them cool and out of the sun. Upstairs we also have air-conditioning units and plenty of fans.
Summer is a lovely time of the year but the hot weather can take its toll on the elderly so we are paying close attention to our residents at both our homes to ensure they are not suffering as a result.
On Friday, at Castle Hill House, we are having a Hawaiian Party for our residents and their guests.
The Garden Room is decorated with pictures of exotic birds and plants and mobiles of tropical fruit and flowers created by our staff and residents.
There will be Hawaiian music, Hawaiian Burgers, tropical fruit salad, Hawaiian mock-tails, a coconut shy, and the residents will be entertained by the staff performing limbo and a hula- hula dance in grass skirts and garlands.
Keep your eyes on the website and our Facebook page over the next few days for photographs of this fun event.
On that note I will say goodbye for now, enjoy the sunshine, drink plenty and take care.
