During this time it can be a bit overwhelming to find things to do to fill your day, we have compiled a list of our favourite things to do when we are at home. We hope our list gives you a couple of ideas!
Make a Gratitude List
List 3 things you are grateful for each day. Whether this is written down or just a mental note, knowing there are things you are grateful for can help during this scary time.
Watch a Movie or a Series
This could be a new movie you haven’t seen before or your favourite classic film. Take the time to focus on the movie and zone out for an hour or two.
Phone a Loved One
Organise a virtual coffee break and chat with a loved one. If you can use FaceTime or other software that allows you to see each other even better! Schedule a chat each week, giving you both something to look forward to.
Bake a Cake
Try a new recipe or get inventive and make up a new concoction with the ingredients you already have in the home.
Do a Guided Meditation
Guided meditation can help manage anxiety and stress. Here is a link for a 10 minute guided meditation class.
Cuddle a Pet
For those lucky enough to have a 4 legged companion during your isolation, cuddling a pet releases the happy endorphin (oxytocin).
Get Your Body Moving
If you are unable to leave the house at all. Try a virtual exercise class, during this time we need to make sure we are looking after our physical health. Here are a few workouts that are senior-friendly.
This could be anything from creating a simple pencil drawing to making a sculpture. Use items already in the home and get inventive.
Put on your favourite album and have a singalong!
Organise your Wardrobe
Get all your clothes out of your wardrobe and drawers and start sorting. Organise your clothes, either by season, colour or type. For any clothes you no longer want, bag these up and take them to the charity shops when they reopen.
Do Some Gardening
If you have a garden, get outside and get started on the list of outdoor jobs. Also make sure to take care of your indoor plants, check to see if any of them need repotting or a little TLC.
Puzzle or a Board Game
Get out the board games and puzzles, you can also find lots of online games if you don’t have any physical games in the home.
Work on a different room in the house each day and give them a proper spring clean. Open the windows and let some fresh into your space.
Put on your Favourite Outfit
Getting dressed each day, even if you are not getting out of the house, is so important. Putting on your favourite outfit will make you feel great and also more productive.
Learn a New Dance
Get your dancing shoes on and learn a new dance! You can find tutorial videos online for some different dance routines.
I hope our list of things to do in isolation has been helpful. Try and schedule activities each day that make you happy and at least one thing a day to get you moving. Most importantly make sure to look after yourself during this unprecedented time.
