We all know it is a very English thing to talk about the weather and we have certainly had something to talk about lately!
What with ‘Storm Ciara’ and then ‘Storm Dennis’ we are all feeling pretty battered and blown. But when the weather is wild like that we batten down the hatches and get things done indoors. Last week at Cedars Castle Hill we concentrated on St Valentine’s Day. It was a time to reflect on romantic love and our residents had many lovely stories to recall.
I asked Vera (bottom left) , who is from Yorkshire, how she and her husband first met.
“It was at a friend’s wedding, I was 25”
Was it a happy marriage? I asked.
“Don’t know I didn’t see much of him. He was a Marine”.
Was he handsome? I asked.
“Very, he was 6ft 2 with eyes of blue”
What colour hair did he have?
Well, she said, it depended on t’ weather.
Oh, why was that? I asked, feeling rather puzzled.
Well, it depended on t’ whether he wore a hat or not! She answered.
When I had stopped laughing Vera and others set about making cards and arranging flowers for Valentine’s Day. Chatting about memories and about how different things were when they were young. As you can see below even Poppy, The Cedars’ resident cat, sensed that Love was in the air!
