My mother has been a resident at The Cedars for over 2 years and was admitted from the hospital after a hip operation. She was in a very frail condition and was extremely confused. The management were keen to involve me, as eldest son and 'enduring power of attorney', to establish a regimen to improve her general health and well-being. Mother has celebrated her 95th birthday in good health and although still frail, is far more alert and loves the company of the staff and fellow residents. Review of her Care Plan takes place annually and the management are careful to ensure that she receives no more medication than is necessary to maintain a pain-free and happy existence. MC
Cedars Nursing Home Testimonial
My mother has been treated at all times with dignity and kindness. She is receiving better personal care than before and is clean, sweet smelling and warm. She cannot have whole food and feed herself and is fed with care and patience. I am always made welcome and pop in and out at any time. Even though she is not able to fend for herself, the staff make sure she gets some time in the lounge so she has the stimulation she needs. I am so glad I found this home and they were able to accept her after her previous home closed. The support staff are lovely too.   CR

With thanks to everyone who helped us move in and maintained K in such a comfortable state in her sad decline. Your respect for her wishes was evident and personal care much appreciated in that lovely room. We were pleased to have found such a caring and suitable environment for K when it was evident she couldn't return to her flat, which greatly distressed her. With kind regards LL

Testimonial for The Cedars – June 2017
02nd May 2017 Dear All at The Cedars, Just a few words to once again say a big thank you for all that you did to make S's last few years as comfortable as possible. You never know when you will lose you loved one, so when it comes it will always be a shock. We had S's funeral at Hollybrook  Cemetery, Southampton on 24th April. As you are probably aware, S was no great lover on religion, so the service had a light religious touch and was more a celebration of her past life, growing up in London, through the 2nd World War years emigrating to Australia in the twenties and returning to England in her thirties to look after her mother, meeting her husband 'L' on the ship back to England and starting a family. When L retired from the Merchant Navy in the 1980's, both S and L managed to travel as much as they could for a few years prior to L's failing health and passing away in 1985. After this, S became a volunteer at Southampton General Hospital. S did this for 23 years as a member of 'The League of Friends'. R's daughter have fond memories of assisting S on their walks around the wards with the trolley, brightening up peoples stay in hospital. Needless to say, S would always be late back with her trolley having spent too much time on each ward, chatting and joking with everyone she met. As the years went by S was less able to get about so was forced to give up her volunteer work and in time needed assistance herself for shopping, gardening and housework. When I moved back to Dorset in 2009, I bought S with me, to make sure she kept out of mischief. In time the minor strokes she suffered took their toll of her health until she became wheel-chair bound. And, of course, the left you know. Her stay at the Cedars was a happy one, and although she always wanted to return to Australia, she knew she would never return and that she was in the best place. So, I will by saying a big thank you to all of you who came into contact with S, for being so kind and considerate. Your skills are underrated. We shall always be in your debt for the kindness shown. Yours sincerely D & R

My family and I sincerely thank all the staff at Castle Hill or the wonderful and caring way everyone looked after my husband P. He was happy and appreciated all that was done to help him day and night. P always hated staying in hospital and wouldn't go unless it was absolutely necessary so we are all thankful that you were able to care for him till the end of his life. God Bless you all BW
